Who it is for

  • Social work students learning case management
  • New child protection caseworkers in supervised practice
  • Trainers and lecturers leading classroom exercises
  • Supervisors planning induction or refresher sessions

Are you learning how to move from a child protection referral through assessment, planning, review, and closure? This practice guide lets you rehearse that six-step sequence with Noor, a fictional 12-year-old referred by her school. Use the prompts to organize needs, risks, and strengths, draft a goal, plan actions, and note questions for supervision. Every name and detail stays fictional; the pages are not for recording a real case.

The 48-page pack comes as PDFs in A4 and US Letter. It includes a 1-page cover, 3-page Start Here, 25-page worksheet file, 7-page tracker file, 4-page Quick Reference, 4-page Guide, 3-page Clinician Guide, and 1-page Credits and References. Worksheets take Noor's case through the six steps and include case notes and a full practice run. Trackers include a practice log, confidence scales, weekly planner, scenario log, skills grid, and path tracker. The quick-reference pages hold the six-step map, wording bank, reminder card, and real-concern guidance. Twelve forms are marked to make copies.

Follow the suggested six-week path, one short session each week, or use the session maps for partner or classroom practice. Start with the fictional case and screening grid, then work through assessment, planning, implementation, review, and closure pages. Keep the quick-reference card nearby and use the trackers to record what you practised and questions for supervision. You finish with completed practice forms, a log of your learning, and specific points to discuss with a supervisor. Use local procedures and qualified supervision for real work.

Questions people ask

Can I print the workbook on A4 or US Letter paper?

Yes. Every file is supplied as a PDF in both A4 and US Letter, with the same content in each size. The complete pack has 48 pages per size. The forms are designed for handwriting, and the Start Here pages also note that they work on a tablet with a stylus.

Can I use this workbook for a real child protection case?

No. The pages are for fictional training practice and self-reflection, not a live case, formal assessment, official record, or approved case plan. Do not enter real identifying or case information. Local safeguarding procedures, agency rules, and qualified supervision take precedence in real work.

How often should I use the practice guide?

The suggested path is one short session a week for six weeks, moving from orientation and the fictional case through the six steps. You can work alone for 30 to 45 minutes, compare forms with a partner, or use the Clinician Guide's session maps in a group.
